07/01-14/07 Hedwig and the Angry Inch
W
Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of Hedwig Schmidt (Patrick Kelly), the unfortunate victim of a gruesomely botched sex- change operation. Her journey to find the one thing missing in her life leads her on a rock and roll odyssey across the Berlin Wall, across the world and from man to woman.
Hedwig begins her journey as Hansel a young boy growing up in Germany under a gruesome regime, and the equally horrific command of his mother. He finds an escape from his routine existence in the form of a handsome American G.I. named Luther, who promises to take him away from Germany. The stipulation however, is that Luther can only take a bride back to America. Abandoned by her hus-band, Hedwig's new beau Tommy Gnosis leaves her to become a Rock and Roll Superstar, thrusting Hedwig to take control and fill her own voids. What better way than by forming her own rock band, The Angry Inch. By John Cameron Mitchell. Music and lyrics are by Stephen Trask. Directed by Chad Henderson.
